The island of Puerto Rico is devastated from Hurricane Maria and they have put out the call to help. The Roberto Clemente Museum lead by Executive Director Duane Rieder gave out the call for help. Bill Peduto used his social media megaphone as mayor to request the help as well. Pittsburgh answered. The community has managed fill several tractor trailers full of supplies to help with the aftermath.

Pittsburghers lined up in cars bringing supplies and checks. The suggested donation was $21, but many felt to add a few extra digits to it. So far over $50,000 has been raised for relief. Even one kid came in with $0.50 to donate.

DiAnoia’s Eatery and Pizza Taglio provided food for the event.

Clement himself had died in a plane crash bringing an aid shipment destined for Nicaragua in 1972. This is one of the events that show his humanitarian spirit remains with us.
