Startup Weekend has been a popular draw in Pittsburgh’s thriving tech scene. Participants pitch ideas, form a team, and luck willing design a product in 54 hours. Many companies have come from the competition. Some have even been wildly successful. That’s not to say the event doesn’t have issues like sexism. The Women edition of Startup Weekend Pittsburgh was the fire women entrepreneurs so desperately seek. Set in the same space as previous Startup Weekends, Alphalab Gear, this one had many pitches geared towards travel and activities.

Go Jane Go was the winner of the weekend with their app focused on connecting women travelers to avoid the creeps that hang around hotel watering holes. Often a problem for the solo-businesswoman, meeting people in a city as you attend a conference can be a daunting task. There is a now a Tinder for that.
