Startup Weekend has been a popular draw in Pittsburgh’s thriving tech scene. Participants pitch ideas, form a team, and luck willing design a product in 54 hours. Many companies have come from the competition. Some have even been wildly successful. That’s not to say the event doesn’t have issues like sexism. Go Jane Go was the winner of the weekend with their app focused on connecting women travelers to avoid the creeps that hang around hotel watering holes. Often a problem for the solo-businesswoman, meeting people in a city as you attend a conference can be a daunting task. There is a now a Tinder for that.
